The National Museum of the Sultanate of Oman opened in Muscat in 2016. It tells the story of the nation’s heritage, starting from the earliest human settlement in the Oman Peninsula 2 million years ago up to the present day. This innovative museum includes a fully equipped learning centre and state of the art conservation facilities, reflecting International Council of Museums standards.
At opening, the museum had 5,466 exhibits on display with further plans to display an additional 7,000 artefacts. We designed, prototyped, manufactured and installed 248 cases, two of which were among the largest display cases in the world.
Our design and engineering teams produced a stunning access solution to allow ease of access into these 2 enormous display cases via an elaborate electromechanical system. We took into careful consideration the design and engineering challenges related to this; we worked project designer and client through the prototype and design phases and finally, the manufacturing and delivery, where our technicians assembled many different case designs and access solutions.
