Location Museum of Islamic Art, Doha / Designers: Wilmotte & Associates
Opened in 2008, The Museum of Islamic Art in Doha is a breath-taking building designed by I. M. Pei with galleries designed by Jean-Michel Wilmotte. Built on a man-made island, it is a powerful expression of Pei’s vision, inspired by the ablutions fountain of the Ibn Tulun Mosque in Cairo. The museum takes the visitor on a journey through cultures and time with over 800 exhibits spanning three continents over 1300 years.
We provided 450 display cases with the largest being 5.5 metres high, which was possibly the largest display in the world at the time.
Housed within an IM Pei designed building, some of the largest panels of antireflective glass in museum showcases anywhere in the world were craned in before the roof was enclosed. 450 individual cases designed by Jean-Michel Wilmotte were delivered and installed for the Opening in 2008.
