In December 2017, the British Museum reopened its longest gallery which is devoted to China and South Asia. The existing artefacts are now interspersed with a range of newer, cased exhibits, offering a chronological journey through the rich collections from Neolithic pottery to Ravi Shankar’s sitar.
Each case was installed with humidity controls for flexibility and to ensure the conservation and protection of some of the new and more delicate artefacts such as paintings, prints and textiles.
